When talking to fellow Koi keeper's,one of the most common remark's made is " I think my Koi are suffering from white spot".
Whilst white spot is a common koi parasite it is often confused with many other condition's which show has white spot on the fishes body or fins.

White spot is caused by the organism icthyophthitius multfillis and is found wherever freshwater fish live. The tell-tale presence of white colored cysts on the body or fins of your koi carp is not the first indication that the condition isprevalent.Your fish may be dying due to the level of parasite in the gills long before you notice any spots on the body of your koi.

A heavy infestation of white spots could well resemble the effect of a sprinkling salt on the fish. When there is a high level of parasites on the body of the fish, excess mucous can be produced. If a outbreak is serious ,secondary infections of either bacterial or fungal will occur.

The behavior of your Koi will tell you that there is something wrong in your pond.
Those koi carp that are affected by white spot become lethargic, not swimming around. They may also swim about the surface of your pond and or refusing to eat food.
